Service Design UE Potsdam
Service Design

Students at UE Potsdam struggled with everyday campus life: unclear signage, few places to study or collaborate, scattered support channels and almost no food options on site. This project looked at the campus as one connected service and redesigned it around what students actually need, combining a student app with physical changes to the building.

Challenge
Campus services were fragmented across confusing signage, notice boards and email. Floor maps on glass walls were hard to read, the Welcome Desk layout was unclear, and there were no dedicated spaces for quiet study, group work or workshops, even though several rooms sat empty. Food options on campus were limited and poorly rated.
Objective
Improve student life across four areas: Navigation, Networking, Help & Support, and Food & Mensa. Through surveys with students, faculty and office staff, an empathy map and personas, the goal was to prioritize the biggest pain points and design solutions across both digital touchpoints and the physical campus.
Results
The project delivered a student app with room search and 2D/3D floor plans, space booking, a ticket-based help centre and a food guide, backed by a full design system. On campus, it proposed high-contrast wayfinding signage, redesigned study, group, workshop and lounge spaces, and Żabka Nano as a better-fitting food alternative to Convini.
